Proof of Service
Each completed service includes a sworn Affidavit of Service prepared for filing with Ontario courts and tribunals.
We attend the provided address and make a professional attempt to serve the documents in accordance with Ontario requirements. Each visit is documented with the date, time, location, and result.
When service is successful, we record how the documents were delivered, who accepted them, and any relevant details from the attendance. This creates a clear record for the affidavit.
The process server prepares and swears the Affidavit of Service before a commissioner of oaths. The affidavit confirms the documents served, the method of service, and the key details required by the court.
You receive the completed affidavit by email as a court-ready PDF. Once delivered, it can be filed with the appropriate Ontario court or tribunal without additional formatting.

Process serving is the formal legal delivery of court documents, such as statements of claim, applications, or notices, to the individual named in those documents. In Ontario, most court materials must be served in accordance with specific legal requirements, including personal service, substituted service, or other permitted methods, before a matter can proceed through the courts.
Ottawa's economy is driven by the public service, technology, and healthcare sectors, resulting in a broad range of legal matters across the region. We regularly handle service for employment-related disputes, commercial litigation, professional negligence claims, family law matters, landlord and tenant issues, and debt collection files. Our process serving covers all neighbourhoods and surrounding communities, including a consistent volume of Small Claims Court matters throughout the greater Ottawa area.
We serve all areas of Ottawa, including downtown and core neighbourhoods such as the ByWard Market, the Glebe, Centretown, Sandy Hill, Westboro, and Hintonburg. Our coverage also extends throughout the west end, including Kanata, Stittsville, and North Gower; the south and east, including Nepean, Gloucester, Barrhaven, and Manotick; and Orleans. We also regularly handle service in surrounding communities such as Osgoode, Greely, North Gower, and Kemptville. If your defendant is located anywhere within the National Capital Region or greater Ottawa area, we can locate and serve them efficiently.
The primary courthouse in Ottawa is the Ontario Superior Court of Justice at 161 Elgin Street in downtown Ottawa. This is where we file Affidavits of Service for most civil and family law matters, and it also houses the Small Claims Court. For federal matters, we are experienced with filings at the nearby Federal Court office. As local Ottawa process servers, we are familiar with courthouse procedures, filing requirements, and optimal filing times, helping avoid unnecessary delays.
Yes. If you contact us before 10:00 AM with a valid address within Ottawa proper, we can often complete same-day service and file your Affidavit of Service by the end of the business day. Rush service is available for an additional fee and is ideal for urgent civil matters requiring a fast turnaround. We also offer evening and weekend service when a defendant is difficult to reach during standard business hours.
Standard service in Ottawa typically ranges from $150 to $200 per single serve and includes Affidavit preparation. Additional serves, out-of-area locations, or more complex assignments may be subject to higher fees. Rush and same-day service generally ranges from $250 to $350, depending on urgency and timing. Additional charges may apply for stakeouts or defendants who are difficult to locate. All pricing is confirmed upfront so you know the cost before proceeding, with rates varying based on location within Ottawa and the surrounding communities.
Ottawa's workforce includes many professionals with varying schedules and secure workplace environments, often subject to strict access and sign-in procedures. We are experienced in serving individuals both at home and at their place of work, and we understand the protocols required for accessing secure office environments. We also recognize that individuals in professional roles may be difficult to locate or may intentionally avoid service. To address this, we use a strategic approach that includes daytime, evening, and weekend attempts, as well as workplace service when appropriate. This experience helps ensure reliable and effective service in more complex situations.
Yes. Each served file includes a sworn Affidavit of Service, signed by the process server before a commissioner of oaths. The affidavit records the details of service, including the time, location, and method, and is recognized by all Ontario courts and tribunals.
If an individual is actively avoiding service, we carefully document every attempt in detail. After three attempts, we can assist with seeking a court order for substituted service, which allows documents to be served through an approved alternative method such as mail, email, or posting at a last known address. We guide clients through this process from start to finish.
We respond to all inquiries within one hour during business hours, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, seven days a week. For urgent or rush service requests, please call us directly for the quickest response.
